Violence erupted in Tarana town, located in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district, as clashes between two groups escalated into stone pelting, arson, and vandalism. The tension gripped the town following clashes that began on Thursday evening, leaving around six people injured.
The unrest originated in Shukla Mohalla, approximately 35 km from the Ujjain district headquarters, after a 22-year-old man was allegedly attacked while standing near a temple outside his house. The situation worsened on Friday as unknown individuals pelted stones at residential properties, damaged a bus, and vandalized shops and houses.
Despite the tense atmosphere, the authorities swiftly responded by strengthening security arrangements in the area. SP Pradeep Sharma assured that the situation is under control, with around 15 to 20 individuals already arrested in coection with the violence. Cases related to stone pelting, arson, and rioting have been registered, with a search underway for additional suspects.
As a precautionary measure, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have been enforced in Tarana to prevent further escalation of violence. Senior officials have implemented flag marches and round-the-clock patrolling to ensure law and order are maintained.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors, with a stern warning from the administration against any attempts to disrupt communal harmony. Strict actions will be taken against those found guilty of inciting violence.
