More than 1,500 Delhi Police and RAF persoel were stationed in Uttam Nagar's Hastsal Colony to oversee the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, ensuring a peaceful and enthusiastic atmosphere on Saturday. This marked a significant event for the residents, as it was the first time they could recall police conducting random ID checks before allowing entry to the Eidgah road.
The heightened security measures, including barricades and thorough bag and ID checks, were put in place in response to a tense situation following a recent tragic incident in the area. The death of Tarun Kumar during a clash with his Muslim neighbors on Holi had sparked concerns of potential violence during Eid celebrations.
Senior police officers, such as Special Commissioner of Police Madhup Tiwari and Joint Commissioner Jatin Narwal, visited Hastsal Colony to assess the security arrangements and ensure the safety of the residents. The police crackdown on individuals spreading rumors on social media helped maintain a peaceful environment during the Eid prayers at the Eidgah.
As the Eid prayers concluded, residents expressed their gratitude towards the authorities for ensuring a secure prayer ceremony. Mohammed Saud, a local resident, shared his relief, stating, "We were dreading what might happen today. But the way the area was secured...we finally felt at peace." The cooperative efforts between the community and law enforcement were evident in the organized procession towards the Badi Masjid for additional prayers.
Despite subdued celebrations and closed shops in the neighborhood, residents cooperated with the police to maintain peace and security. Volunteer groups, like the Muntazima Committee, supported the authorities in overseeing the area and ensuring safety during the festivities. The police's swift actions in detaining suspicious individuals further reinforced the commitment to maintaining order.
The collaborative efforts between the Delhi Police, RAF, and the residents of Hastsal Colony resulted in a peaceful and secure Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in maintaining harmony during festive occasions.
