Tragic Indore House Fire Claims Seven Lives Amid EV Charging Point and LPG Cylinder Explosions

A devastating pre-dawn blaze ripped through a three-story residence in Indore, resulting in the tragic deaths of seven family members and leaving three others critically injured. Suspected to have been triggered by an electric vehicle charging point and exacerbated by multiple LPG cylinder explosions, the incident has sparked fresh concerns regarding the safety of residential EV charging setups.

The catastrophic fire erupted at Brijeshwari Aex near Bengali Square around 4 am, rapidly engulfing the building and trapping occupants inside. Initial investigations by Indore Police Commissioner Santosh Singh indicate that an explosion, likely originating from an electric vehicle parked outside the house, may have ignited the flames.

As the inferno quickly spread indoors, where approximately ten LPG cylinders were stored, several cylinders detonated in succession between 4 am and 4:30 am, intensifying the blaze and complicating rescue operations. Occupants were reportedly unable to escape as electronic locks failed to open, confining them amidst the escalating smoke and heat.

Despite prompt arrival of fire tenders, gaining access to the engulfed building proved challenging due to thick smoke and continuous explosions. Rescue teams eventually managed to extract three survivors initially, while others, particularly those in bedrooms, remained trapped for extended periods.

Tragically, six victims succumbed to smoke inhalation after being rushed to the hospital unconscious. The deceased, including individuals such as Vijay Sethia, Suman, Manoj Pugalia, Simran, Tinu, Chhotu Sethia, and 12-year-old Rashi Sethia, have left a void in the community. Meanwhile, three injured individuals—Saurabh Pugalia, Ashish, and Harshit Pugalia—continue to receive medical treatment.

The house, owned by Manoj Pugalia, a polymer trader, suffered significant damage, with parts of the building deemed structurally unsound. State Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, who inspected the scene, emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to prevent future tragedies.

Amidst growing interest in electric vehicles as an alternative to traditional fuel sources, the Minister highlighted the importance of developing safety protocols for EV charging setups. A committee of experts will be tasked with the investigation, aiming to avert similar incidents in the future.
