The ongoing investigation into the Telangana phone tapping case has taken a dramatic turn as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) reveals shocking details of alleged misuse of surveillance mechanisms. An SIT source has come forward claiming to have concrete evidence pointing towards illegal use of surveillance tactics to extort money through electoral bonds.
Authorities have disclosed that the scope of the inquiry has broadened significantly, with call data records (CDR) and internet protocol data records (IPDR) of thousands being accessed illegally. The police's Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) stands accused of breaching the privacy of numerous individuals, including political figures, ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections in Telangana.
Following fresh evidence and new information obtained from the accused, the police are set to file a supplementary chargesheet in the case. Among those implicated in the tapping scandal are prominent figures such as former SIB chief T Prabhakar Rao, iNews managing director Aruvela Shravan Kumar Rao, and several police officers.
The case, which dates back to the tenure of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, has now ensnared members of his family. Former minister Harish Rao, KCR's nephew, and KCR's son and former minister K Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) have been summoned for questioning by the SIT. The investigation has also targeted J Santosh Rao, another nephew of KCR.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government has dismissed the accusations as a diversionary tactic, asserting that the case lacks substance. The SIT's issuance of notices to members of the BRS has been met with denial and claims of iocence from the accused party.
With revelations of extensive phone tapping and illegal surveillance practices, the scandal shows no signs of abating. The discovery that over 600 phone numbers were tapped, along with the unauthorized access to call data and internet records, has intensified the scrutiny on the accused individuals.
As the investigation unfolds, the public awaits further developments in this high-profile case that has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of Telangana.
