Ten security persoel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and one CoBRA sub-inspector sustained injuries during an anti-Maoist operation in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on the eve of Republic Day. The injured persoel were targeted in six improvised explosive device (IED) blasts and were promptly airlifted to Raipur for treatment.
Acting on intelligence regarding the presence of Maoists in the west of Usur, a joint operation was carried out by the DRG and the Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) elite unit, Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA). The operation took place near the Karegutta hills on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border.
Battalion 1 of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), an armed wing of the baed Communist Party of India (Maoist), is believed to be located in the Karegutta hills. While it remains uncertain if Battalion 1 was involved in the blasts, they are reported to have over 100 armed fighters.
Of the injured persoel, ten are from the DRG and one is a sub-inspector with CoBRA. The injuries ranged from serious leg injuries to splinter injuries in the eyes due to the IED blasts. The injured sub-inspector has been identified as G D Rudresh Singh of the 201 Battalion.
Despite the challenging terrain, all injured persoel were successfully rescued and airlifted to Raipur for advanced medical treatment. A police officer confirmed that all injured persoel are stable, oriented, and conscious, with no immediate danger to their lives.
Security forces have been actively targeting Maoist insurgents, with 20 Maoists eliminated this year alone. Over the past two years, a significant number of Maoists have been neutralized in Bijapur district, along with casualties among security persoel and civilians.
At the upcoming 77th Republic Day parade, the Indian Air Force will present a spectacular display featuring a special Sindoor formation including Rafales, Su-30s, MiG-29s, and a Jaguar. The parade will also feature a Prahar and Garud formation, along with 29 aircraft from six different types.
