Sonam Wangchuk Accuses Safdarjung Hospital of Detention Post-Hunger Strike

Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who recently concluded a 26-day hunger strike, has stirred controversy with claims of being effectively detained at Safdarjung Hospital. Wangchuk released a video on YouTube showcasing a tense confrontation with police persoel at the hospital.

In the video, Wangchuk expresses frustration over being denied permission to shift to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon despite a court order. He likened his stay at Safdarjung Hospital to detention, citing restrictions on visitors and personal devices.

Despite a court order granting him the choice to move hospitals, Wangchuk alleges that Safdarjung Hospital staff delayed his transfer, leading to a heated exchange captured in the video. He questioned the withholding of the court order and the motives behind it.

Wangchuk, visibly distressed in the video, urged the police to either allow his transfer or arrest him. He emphasized the toll the ordeal was taking on him and his family, dispelling doubts about his intentions for the hunger strike.

Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali Angmo, described his forced admission to Safdarjung Hospital as a 'detention' and petitioned the Delhi High Court for a hospital transfer. After an initial denial, the HC eventually approved the petition, leading to Wangchuk's relocation to Medanta Hospital.

Despite the challenges faced, Wangchuk remains steadfast in his activism, shedding light on the struggles encountered post-hunger strike.
