Indian Railways Enhances Coectivity with Kazipet-Balharshah Third Line Project
The Ministry of Railways has successfully inaugurated the Kazipet-Balharshah third line project, a significant step towards improving train speeds, enhancing capacity, and alleviating congestion along the bustling Delhi-Cheai route. The project, spaing 203 kilometers and costing approximately Rs 3,000 crore, has been completed under the South Central Railway (SCR) zone.
Revamping Train Operations on the Delhi-Cheai Corridor Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of South Central Railway (SCR), A Sridhar, highlighted the importance of the Kazipet-Balharshah section as a crucial rail link coecting northern and southern India. The final leg of the project, covering the 11-km stretch between Asifabad and Sirpur Kaghaznagar, including a key bridge over the Bibra River, was finalized on July 22, 2026, marking the successful conclusion of the initiative.
Boosting Passenger and Freight Services Besides enhancing passenger services, the Kazipet-Balharshah section serves as a vital freight corridor, linking various coal and cement sidings along the route. The continuous growth in passenger and freight traffic had led to congestion on this crucial rail link, prompting the need for expansion and modernization.
