As panic over a shortage of domestic LPG cylinders continues to grip Punjab, residents across several districts have been facing long queues and tense scenes outside gas agencies as they rush to refill their cylinders.
In Ludhiana’s Giaspura area, consumers reportedly engaged in verbal altercations with gas agency staff after enduring hours-long queues. Similar situations unfolded in Bhawanigarh, where people lined up as early as 5:00 AM due to extended waiting times.
Amidst the chaos, farmers from Jhumba village in Bathinda district claimed that a gas agency in Sangat block had shuttered its doors for hours in response to the influx of consumers, exacerbating anxiety among those in need of cylinders.
Long queues were also observed in Talwara, Hoshiarpur district, where consumers flocked outside Satnam Gas Agency as soon as it opened at 8:00 AM. Jasvir Singh, a resident, expressed frustration over the delays, highlighting discrepancies between claims of sufficient LPG supply and the ground reality.
Avtar Singh Tari from Bhullarheri village in Sangrur echoed similar sentiments, noting the challenges in securing cylinders without proper booking, leading to heightened anxiety among residents.
Despite the tense atmosphere, a heartwarming display of community spirit was witnessed in Bhawanigarh, where locals organized a "chai-samosa langar" for those enduring the queues, showcasing the unity and resilience of Punjab amidst the crisis.
While panic buying has contributed to the sudden rush at gas agencies, concerns over LPG availability persist, with households resorting to alternative cooking methods due to the scarcity.
Amidst these challenges, Punjab residents continue to navigate the uncertainties surrounding LPG supply, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts to alleviate the strain on consumers.
