Enforcement Directorate Granted Custody of Sanjeev Arora for Seven Days
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been granted custody of Sanjeev Arora, the former chairman and managing director of Hampton Sky Realty Limited (HSRL), for seven days by the court. Arora, who is also a Punjab minister with AAP, was arrested following searches at multiple premises in Delhi, Gurgaon, and Chandigarh linked to him and his company.
Allegations of Financial Irregularities During the court proceedings, the ED alleged that Arora's company engaged in fraudulent activities by procuring mobile phones from various domestic entities using bogus invoices without actual goods supply. The agency claimed that the company generated proceeds of crime worth Rs 1025 crore through purported exports and bogus purchases, causing a loss to the state exchequer.
Search and Seizure Operation The ED's investigations revealed sales of mobile phones worth approximately Rs 15712 crore from May 12, 2023, to October 27, 2023, with exports amounting to Rs 10250 crore going to UAE-based entities. Many of the suppliers involved were found to be non-existent or shell companies, issuing bogus invoices without supplying goods.
Role of Sanjeev Arora and Son in the Company The remand application detailed that Sanjeev Arora's son, Kavya Arora, who is the current managing director of HSRL, joined the company in 2013 and became the MD in 2025. Kavya Arora mentioned that the company started exporting mobile phones to Middle East countries in 2022, with his father managing the export operations until 2024.
Granting of Custodial Remand Following the ED's request for custodial remand, the court granted the agency custody of Sanjeev Arora for seven days to carry out further investigations into the financial irregularities and alleged fraudulent activities.
