Survey Conducted by IIT Delhi to Enhance Delhi's Bus Network
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is gearing up to conduct a comprehensive survey to gather valuable feedback from commuters using their bus services. This initiative, led by IIT Delhi in collaboration with the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC), aims to revamp and optimize Delhi's bus network for improved accessibility and service quality.
Route Rationalisation for Enhanced Commuting Experience
Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between IIT Delhi and DTIDC, the survey will cover 121 routes in the East Zone, 181 routes in the West Zone, and 194 routes in the North Zone. The ongoing exercise in the South Zone will also be included in the study. The primary focus is to gather insights on commuting patterns, preferred routes, bus pass usage, travel frequency, and journey timings from the commuters.
Enhancing Coectivity and Addressing Challenges
Officials at DTC emphasized that the survey is a crucial step towards enhancing bus coectivity and addressing the daily challenges faced by commuters. By collecting data on demographics, vehicle ownership, trip details, and commuter preferences, the aim is to tailor the bus network to better suit the needs of the passengers.
Improving Passenger Experience
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted the importance of incorporating feedback from experienced DTC drivers, conductors, and depot managers to enhance last-mile coectivity and improve the overall passenger experience. The survey will also delve into the reasons why some commuters opt for alternative modes of transport over public buses, addressing issues such as last-mile coectivity, bus frequency, safety concerns, and travel time.
