Bhopal Police Commissioner Defends Investigation into Twisha Sharma's Death
Amid growing concerns and demands from the family of Twisha Sharma for a second postmortem, Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar has come forward to address alleged mishandling of evidence and delays in the arrest of her husband.
Suicide Not Murder, States Police Commissioner Addressing the media on Tuesday, Commissioner Kumar stated that the ongoing investigation suggests suicide, not murder, in the case of model and actor Twisha Sharma. He also defended the speed and procedure of the probe, amidst calls from Twisha's family for further examinations.
“Our investigation points towards suicide and not murder,” said Kumar, as he faced mounting pressure from the family for additional postmortem and concerns over mishandled evidence.
Family Seeks Second Autopsy Following the family's formal request for another autopsy, Commissioner Kumar emphasized that the police have no objections to a second examination. The decision now lies with the court to determine the necessity of a second postmortem.
Controversy Over Postmortem Report The controversy arose due to the alleged failure of the investigating officer to present crucial evidence, like the belt found at the scene, before the medical board during the autopsy. This omission has hindered a scientific comparison between the ligature material and the marks on Twisha's neck.
The post-mortem report from AIIMS Bhopal noted two ligature marks on Twisha's neck, but the absence of the alleged nylon belt during examination prevented any scientific correlation.
Family Raises Concerns Twisha's family has raised doubts about the injuries being consistent with suicide and criticized the police for delays in apprehending her husband, Samarth Singh, a suspect in the case. Commissioner Kumar assured that the investigation is ongoing, and arrests will be made soon.
The case, under investigation for dowry death and cruelty, has garnered significant public attention in Bhopal, given Twisha's coection to a retired district judge. Her untimely death, just months after her marriage, has left many questioning the circumstances surrounding her passing.
