Odisha's Rail Network Set to Welcome 500 Additional Trains, Says Railway Minister Vaishnaw
In a significant development for Odisha's transportation infrastructure, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw aounced that the state's rail network is poised to support nearly 500 additional trains. This positive news comes following major infrastructure expansions and capacity upgrades across various railway projects in the region.
Major Infrastructure Projects Unveiled During a recent address at Rail Bhawan, Minister Vaishnaw shed light on the ongoing four-line expansion work on the vital Howrah-Cheai main rail corridor. Additionally, he highlighted that railway projects worth approximately Rs 90,000 crore are currently in progress in Odisha. These projects include the Junagarh-Nabarangpur, Nabarangpur-Jeypore, Jeypore-Malkangiri, Bargarh-Nuapada, Gunupur-Therubali, Khurda Road-Balangir, and Bimlagarh-Talcher rail line projects.
Khurda Road-Balangir Rail Line to Wrap Up by 2027 Minister Vaishnaw revealed that the Khurda Road-Balangir rail line project is on track for completion by 2027. Additionally, plans are underway for a fresh Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Puri-Konark rail coectivity project.
Station Redevelopment and New Train Services Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), 59 railway stations in Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, Puri, Sambalpur, Berhampur, Talcher, and Baripada, are undergoing redevelopment initiatives. Furthermore, a new train service between Puri and Koraput has been introduced to improve coectivity for pilgrimage, tourism, education, healthcare, employment, and business travel.
Enhancing Coectivity for Odisha The newly launched Puri–Koraput–Puri Tri-Weekly Express service is set to enhance direct rail coectivity between Puri and significant parts of western and southern Odisha. Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that this service will play a crucial role in improving coectivity for various sectors, particularly benefiting the KBK region and tribal-dominated districts.
