TMC MP Mahua Moitra Alleges Harassment on IndiGo Flight Amid Political Tensions in West Bengal

Amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal following the recently concluded Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has alleged harassment onboard an IndiGo flight to Delhi. Moitra claimed that a group of male passengers shouted slogans targeting her party and filmed her inside the aircraft after landing.

In a post shared on social media, Moitra stated that she was traveling to Delhi for official work to attend a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence. She recounted being seated on seat 1F on IndiGo flight 6E 719 when a group of 4-6 men boarded in a group, leered at her, and moved to the back of the plane.

Moitra further alleged that upon landing and before the doors opened, the group began shouting slogans and recording videos inside the plane. The video shared by Moitra captured the men raising slogans such as "Jai Shri Ram," "TMC chor (TMC is a party of thieves)," and "pishi chor, bhaipo chor (the aunt and her nephew are thieves)." The group also shouted, "Trinamooler shob chor," translating to "everyone in Trinamool are thieves."

Moitra tagged IndiGo, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, and others in her post, urging the airline to identify the passengers involved. She emphasized that such harassment inside an airplane should not go unaddressed and called for the crew to be named, shamed, and put on the no-fly list.

Responding to the incident, Moitra criticized what she referred to as "BJP culture" and highlighted the need for formal complaints to be lodged. The incident has stirred debate amidst the backdrop of the recent Assembly elections where the BJP emerged victorious over the long-standing TMC rule under Mamata Banerjee.

The Assembly elections in West Bengal witnessed intense exchanges between the BJP and TMC, with corruption allegations and political violence becoming prominent issues. The election results marked a significant political shift, with the BJP defeating the TMC, signaling a new era in West Bengal politics.
