"Monsoon Roars Back: 'Intense' Rainfall Set to Drench 10+ States"

Forecast: Intense Rain Warning Across Multiple Indian States Until July 30

An "intense rain" warning has been issued until July 30 for Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and the eastern and western regions of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. After a period of relative calm, the Southwest Monsoon has displayed signs of a resurgence, with over 10 states, including Odisha and West Bengal, preparing for heavy rain spells expected to persist until Monday.

Extremely heavy rain is anticipated to continue in coastal Odisha and West Bengal until Monday, with Jagatsinghpur recording a 24-hour rainfall of 330 mm on Sunday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) aounced the formation of a depression in the north Bay of Bengal region off the Odisha coast on Sunday, with the system situated approximately 130 km south-southeast of Sagar Island and 140 km southeast of Digha in West Bengal. It is also positioned about 170 km east of Chandbali and 180 km east-southeast of Balasore in Odisha.

The IMD stated that the depression is likely to progress northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression within the next 24 hours. It is projected to cross the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar Islands, expected around midday on Monday. The weather agency has issued a 'red alert' (indicating action to be taken) for Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts on Monday.

Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea along and off the Odisha coast until July 29. Local administrations in Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj districts have instructed schools to remain closed on Monday. Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and various regions in northeast India are expected to experience intermittent rain until August 1, further emphasizing the weather challenges faced across the country.
