Tragic Boulder Incident Claims Two Lives in Ramban District

In a devastating incident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, a massive boulder fell on a moving Tempo Traveller near Gangroo in Ramban district, resulting in the tragic death of two individuals. The victims, residents of Kastigarh in Doda district, were caught in the unfortunate accident that also left three others injured. The incident has led to the suspension of traffic on the highway, further adding to the challenges faced by travelers in the region.

Over the past four days, Jammu and Kashmir has been grappling with the aftermath of heavy rains, flash floods, and falling rocks that have led to a series of tragic events claiming the lives of at least 25 individuals. The region has been facing disruptions in normal life, with landslides and flash floods causing extensive damage to public property and infrastructure.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and MP Mian Altaf narrowly escaped landslides in the Pir Panjal region, highlighting the perilous conditions brought about by the inclement weather. Choudhary, representing Nowshera, and Altaf, the Lok Sabha member for Anantnag-Rajouri, were conducting relief and rescue operations in the affected areas when they encountered hazardous conditions, underscoring the challenges faced by officials in the ongoing crisis.

Deputy Chief Minister Choudhary expressed concerns over the delayed construction of the Sumbal tuel, emphasizing the impact it has had on the deteriorating condition of the highway. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) had assured timely completion of the tuel project, but the prolonged construction has exacerbated the challenges faced by road infrastructure in the region. Efforts are underway to restore road coectivity promptly, particularly on projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

As adverse weather conditions persist, major pilgrimages such as the Amarnath Yatra, Vaishno Devi Yatra, and Machail Mata Yatra remain temporarily suspended. The ongoing challenges underscore the need for swift action and comprehensive measures to address the impacts of the inclement weather on the region's infrastructure and public safety.
