India's major LPG providers, including Indane, HP Gas, and Bharat Gas, have come together to address a concerning trend in cybercrime targeting the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC). With a notable increase in instances of DAC misuse jeopardizing the secure delivery of LPG cylinders, the trio of companies has issued a joint advisory alerting customers to the potential risks.
In response to the rising threat, HP Gas has advised consumers to equip themselves with the knowledge to distinguish authentic messages from potential scams. Emphasizing the importance of safeguarding personal information, customers are urged to exercise caution before divulging the Delivery Authentication Code.
Before sharing the DAC code, users are reminded to verify certain key indicators, such as ensuring the OTP is a four-digit number, originating from VM-HPGASc-S, and retrieved specifically at the time of delivery. HP Gas stresses the point that their representatives will never request OTPs via phone calls, messaging apps like WhatsApp, or suspicious links.
Both Indane Gasdelivery and Bharat Petroleum have echoed similar sentiments, cautioning customers to remain vigilant against urgent or unfamiliar messages that deviate from the official communication format. To streamline the refill process and minimize physical visits to distributorships, consumers are encouraged to utilize official mobile applications like Indian Oil ONE App and the Bharat Bill Payment system.
The ongoing crisis in the Middle East has triggered fluctuations in global energy markets, directly impacting the cost of domestic LPG cylinders in India. Recent reports indicate a price hike of Rs 60 per 14kg cylinder, with the hospitality sector witnessing a substantial surge to Rs 3,071.50 per 19kg cylinder.
While current domestic prices remain stable, industry analysts are closely monitoring global market developments. The recent 4% spike in Brent crude oil prices, surpassing $105 per barrel, has raised concerns that non-subsidised and commercial fuel rates could see upward adjustments in the near future.
