Jammu and Kashmir Police Arrest 806 People in Major Drug Crackdown
In a significant effort to combat narco-terrorism, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have made a strong impact by arresting a total of 806 individuals in 724 cases related to drug offenses over the past month. This bold move was confirmed by the Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat.
Narcotics Seized and Stern Warning Issued
During the crackdown, more than 600 kg of narcotics were confiscated by the authorities. DGP Nalin Prabhat also issued a stern warning to Shahzad Bhatti, a Pakistan-based gangster allegedly involved in smuggling narcotics into India. Prabhat stated, "We will hunt you down and dismantle your illicit network."
J&K Leads in Anti-Drug Efforts
Jammu and Kashmir have taken the lead in the country with 240 detentions under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in 2025. The state has been actively participating in the "Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan" to create a drug-free environment.
Significant Achievements and Seizures
The J&K Police have shown remarkable performance in combating drug trafficking, with notable arrests such as Gulzar Ahmad and Avneet Nagi in multiple cases. A total of 667 kg of narcotics and 19,000 units of psychotropic substances were seized during the recent anti-drugs campaign.
Property Attachments and Disposals
There has been a 12-fold increase in property attachments related to drug offenses from 2023 to 2026. The police have identified and attached 97 properties worth Rs 4185 crore linked to narcotics trade. Over 4,900 kg of narcotics and 6,400 units of psychotropic substances have been disposed of.
Continued Vigilance and Action
The authorities have taken preventive action against 24 habitual drug offenders and recommended the impoundment of 10 passports associated with drug-related activities. Additionally, 41 properties worth nearly Rs 15 crore have been demolished due to their coection to the narcotics trade.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has been actively involved in leading awareness marches in various districts as part of the ongoing efforts to combat narco-terrorism and drug addiction in Jammu and Kashmir.
