Indian Boxers Shine Bright at Commonwealth Games, Secure Medals in Quarterfinal Bouts
Indian boxers continued their impressive run at the ongoing Commonwealth Games as Sakshi Choudhary, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Yadav, and Narender Berwal booked spots in the semifinals of their respective categories on Day 7.
Medal Assured for at Least 5 Indian Boxers The day saw Sakshi defeating Northern Ireland’s Caitlin Fryers in the women’s 51kg quarterfinal, while Arundhati emerged victorious against New Zealand’s Morgan Henderson in the women’s 70kg category. Sachin triumphed over Botswana’s Treasure Moremi in the men’s 60 kg quarterfinal, and Ankush dominated Seychelles’ Jade Micock in the men’s 80kg quarterfinal. Narender also secured a medal for India after a hard-fought victory over Samoa’s Michael Seko in the men’s 90+kg quarterfinal.
Unbeatable Performance by Indian Contingent Despite some setbacks, with Parveen Hooda and Kapil Pokhariya missing out on the semifinals after losing their matches, the Indian boxers displayed exceptional skills and determination. Ankush Yadav's dominant performance against Micock showcased his superior speed and movement, earning him a unanimous 5-0 victory.
Earlier in the day, Sakshi's strategic approach, utilizing her height and reach advantage, led to a comfortable win over Fryers. Maintaining control throughout the bout, Sakshi's precise jabs and footwork kept her opponent at bay, securing her a well-deserved victory.
Indian Boxers Set to Shine on the Podium With a total of at least 9 Indian boxers now assured of medals, the country's contingent is poised for a remarkable finish at the Commonwealth Games. The performance of Jadumani Singh, Preeti Pawar, Priya Ghanghas, Lovlina Borgohain, and the latest qualifiers reflects the talent and dedication of Indian boxers on the international stage.
