The prestigious BWF India Open Super 750 tournament is set to make a grand shift in venue this year, moving to the illustrious Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The decision to change the venue from the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall was primarily driven by the stadium's impressive seating capacity, which surpasses 8,000, making it an ideal choice for hosting top-tier badminton events.
With India gearing up to host the Badminton World Championships in August next year, the BWF India Open will serve as a crucial test run for the venue. The tournament, scheduled to take place from 13th to 18th January, holds significant importance as the second event on the BWF World Tour, following the Malaysia Open Super 750 as the season opener.
The Super 750 tournament is set to attract the finest badminton players from around the world, offering a total prize purse of USD 950,000 and up to 11,000 ranking points. Fans can expect to witness thrilling matches featuring Indian stars like PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, Satwik Rankireddy, and Chirag Shetty, alongside global sensations including Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Viktor Axelsen, An-se Young, Shi Yuqi, and Jonathan Christie.
Tickets for the India Open will be exclusively available online through the tournament's ticketing partner, Ticmint, with prices starting from Rs 400. Premium seating options are capped at Rs 1,750, ensuring a diverse range of choices for badminton enthusiasts looking to witness the action live.
Commenting on the venue change, BAI General Secretary Sanjay Mishra emphasized the importance of evolving flagship events to accommodate more fans and enhance the overall experience for players and spectators. Mishra noted, "As Indian badminton continues to grow in stature, it is essential that our flagship events evolve in step, creating spaces where the sport, the athletes, and the fans can all thrive together."
Reflecting on past challenges, including complaints about playing conditions during the last edition, the tournament organizers are committed to ensuring a seamless and world-class experience for all participants. The move to the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium signifies a significant milestone in the tournament's evolution, setting the stage for an exhilarating showcase of badminton excellence.
