Tata Electronics & ASML Forge Strategic Partnership for Gujarat Semiconductor Fab

In a significant move to strengthen bilateral ties, Tata Electronics and ASML have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a semiconductor fabrication facility in Gujarat, India. This collaboration marks a strategic partnership between the two companies, elevating their relationship to new heights.

India and the Netherlands have agreed on a comprehensive five-year roadmap (2026-2030) to enhance their cooperation in various sectors. The two nations have signed 17 pacts covering areas such as semiconductors, critical minerals, migration, mobility, water, and renewable energy.

During a meeting in The Hague with his Dutch counterpart, 39-year-old Rob Jetten, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of combining the Netherlands' expertise with India's speed and scale across different sectors. The leaders discussed elevating cooperation in iovation, investment, sustainability, and defense to new dimensions, culminating in the elevation of India-Netherlands relations to a Strategic Partnership level.

The economic partnership between India and the Netherlands is a cornerstone of their friendship, with vast opportunities for collaboration in areas such as fintech, critical minerals, and semiconductors. The recent agreement between ASML and Tata Electronics signifies a significant step towards closer collaboration in the semiconductor field, building on the historic trade agreement between India and the EU.

The two countries have also agreed to enhance defense cooperation through structured joint tri-services interactions and the development of a Defense Industrial Roadmap. Efforts will be made to promote collaboration between the defense industry and research centers, with a focus on logistic support for military units during training exercises.

Both Prime Ministers condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, pledging a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism. They also agreed to strengthen bilateral cyber dialogue engagements and counter cyber threats through capacity building and knowledge exchange. Efforts will continue to conclude Mutual Legal Assistance and Extradition Treaties.

A migration pact was also agreed upon to prevent and combat irregular migration and human trafficking while encouraging the fair mobility of highly skilled professionals. The two nations aim to work together to ensure safe and legal migration practices.
