India and Norway have taken significant steps towards strengthening their bilateral ties by elevating them to a "Green Strategic Partnership." This decision came following a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo on Monday.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating, "Today, we are giving shape to India-Norway relations as a 'Green Strategic Partnership.' Through this strategic alliance, our countries will collaborate on various sectors such as clean energy, climate resilience, Blue Economy, and Green Shipping, leveraging India's scale, speed, and talent with Norway's technology and capital."
Modi's visit to Norway, part of his European tour that included Sweden, emphasized the shared commitment to addressing global challenges through cooperation and iovation.
During the bilateral talks, both leaders emphasized the importance of cooperation in various fields, including health, space, and digital development. Prime Minister Støre highlighted the potential for learning from India in the health sector and signed agreements on developing high-tech quality health services and enhancing cooperation in digital health, artificial intelligence, research, and health technology.
Furthermore, the leaders discussed Arctic and space cooperation, with Modi expressing gratitude for Norway's support in operating India's Arctic research station, "Himadri." Both countries signed a memorandum of understanding between ISRO and the Norwegian Space Agency to enhance collaboration in the space sector.
Amidst discussions on the geopolitical situation and conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a rules-based order, dialogue, and diplomacy. Modi and Støre emphasized the importance of peaceful resolutions to conflicts and the need for international cooperation in addressing global challenges. They highlighted the futility of military conflicts and underscored the value of cooperation in achieving sustainable solutions.
