Days after the controversial proposal to restrict non-Hindus from entering Badrinath and Kedarnath dhams along with 45 other temples managed by the temple committee, the chairperson has made a significant aouncement.
In a recent press conference, Hemant Dwivedi, the President of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, revealed that individuals seeking entry into the 47 shrines under their jurisdiction will now be required to provide an affidavit affirming their faith in "Sanatan."
Dwivedi emphasized that this requirement is not new but a longstanding tradition established by Adi Shankaracharya when founding the temples. The sanctity of these shrines, including revered sites like Badrinath and Kedarnath, must be upheld to honor the beliefs of millions of devotees.
He acknowledged recent attempts to disrupt the sanctity of these religious places, leading to the unanimous decision by the board to enforce this affidavit rule to protect the spiritual significance of the temples.
While the move sparked debates on its constitutionality, Dwivedi clarified that individuals who respect and revere the shrines and the spiritual essence they embody are always welcome. The essence of spirituality and devotion to sites like the river Ganga and Yamunotri reflect the soul of the nation.
In response to queries about Bollywood actor Sara Ali Khan's potential visit, Dwivedi stated that anyone, including Khan, can enter by submitting the required affidavit expressing devotion to Sanatan Dharma.
The proposal, now in the hands of the government for review, has garnered support from stakeholders of all 47 temples under the committee.
Noting the increasing footfall at these temples, especially during the upcoming Char Dham Yatra, the committee aims to maintain the sanctity of these religious sites while ensuring they remain accessible to those who honor their traditions.
As the preparations for the Char Dham Yatra are underway, the doors of Badrinath Dham will open on April 23 and Kedarnath on April 22, welcoming devotees for a spiritual journey.
The move echoes similar efforts in other regions to safeguard the sanctity of Hindu religious spaces and prevent any disrespect towards the faith. By upholding the requirement of the affidavit, the committee aims to preserve the sacredness of these revered shrines.
