During the recent Budget presentation, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) highlighted the concerning fact that only Rs 11976 crore out of the allocated budget is expected to be utilized by the end of the current fiscal year. This revelation sheds light on the struggles faced by the civic body in effectively managing waste in Gurgaon.
The data presented by the MCG indicates that Gurgaon has only spent 35% of the budget allocated for door-to-door collection, transportation, and processing of municipal solid waste in the current fiscal year. The 2026-27 Budget has earmarked Rs 250 crore for waste management, a reduction of nearly 20% from the previous year.
Last year, the MCG faced challenges in waste collection and processing due to ad-hoc arrangements with vendors and delays in shaping up tenders for waste management services. The termination of services of the previous agency in charge further compounded the issue, leading to inefficiencies in waste management operations.
The estimated budget for the financial year 2026-27 was unanimously approved during a special meeting held at John Hall in Civil Lines. Mayor Rajrani Malhotra chaired the meeting, where Chief Accounts Officer Vijay Kumar presented the budget estimates projecting an income of ₹1,918 crore and an expenditure of ₹1,875 crore.
Mayor Malhotra emphasized that the MCG's budget for 2026-27 aims to promote balanced and comprehensive development of Gurgaon. Special attention has been given to strengthening sanitation services, enhancing basic amenities, and upgrading the city's infrastructure to create a clean, well-managed, and modern urban environment.
Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya assured that all schemes and development initiatives outlined in the budget would be implemented effectively and transparently. The corporation is dedicated to improving sanitation, basic services, and civic amenities to transform Gurgaon into a model city.
