Shubman Gill's Struggles Continue as India Faces South Africa in T20 Opener

Shubman Gill faced a tough start in the series opener against South Africa, falling for just 4 runs off two deliveries in Cuttack. Things didn't improve for him as he was dismissed for a golden duck by Lungi Ngidi in Mullanpur on Thursday.

Despite his recent struggles, Shubman Gill has received support from his IPL head coach, Ashish Nehra. Nehra, who leads the Gujarat Titans, emphasized that Gill should not be judged based on just a few poor outings in the T20 format.

"The player you are talking about, if IPL was 3 weeks away, I wouldn't be worried. In such a fast-paced format, whether it is international cricket or IPL, if we start evaluating players like Gill after two-three matches, then it will be difficult," Nehra stated.

Team India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate also showed confidence in Shubman Gill despite his recent struggles. Doeschate acknowledged Gill's talent and past performances in the IPL, expressing belief that the young batsman will bounce back.

"Even with these two dismissals in this series, we believe in his class. He has stacked 600-700-800 runs in IPL before, and he will come good," Doeschate remarked.
