Assassination Attempt Thwarted at Wedding: Former J&K Chief Minister Targeted
The tranquility of a wedding celebration in Jammu was shattered on Wednesday night as a gunshot was fired at former Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) chief minister and National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah. The incident, which took place in the Greater Kailash area, saw a suspect in police custody after the failed assassination attempt.
During the event, J&K's deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary was present, alongside other high-profile attendees, including advisor Nasir Aslam Wani. Shockingly, the assailant managed to approach Abdullah from close range and discharge a shot near his ear before being intercepted by security persoel.
Expressing relief over the close call, Abdullah's son and former J&K CM, Omar Abdullah, highlighted the gravity of the security breach, questioning the lapses that allowed the armed individual to breach the Z+ NSG protection.
Addressing the media, Choudhary emphasized the security lapse, noting the absence of local police at the venue. Meanwhile, Wani urged for a thorough investigation into the incident, reassuring that the suspect is in custody and Abdullah is unharmed.
Political figures, including National Conference spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq and Congress leader Tariq Hameed Karra, condemned the act of violence and called for accountability in ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
