DMK Seeks Changes in Lok Sabha Seating Arrangement Following Alliance Breakup

In a significant move that could impact the future of the opposition INDIA bloc, the Dravida Muetra Kazhagam (DMK) has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla requesting changes to the seating arrangement for its members in the House. This development comes shortly after the Congress ended its alliance with the DMK and aligned with actor-politician Vijay's Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu.

DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi peed a letter to Birla, stating, "I write to respectfully request suitable changes in the seating arrangement of the Members of Parliament belonging to the DMK in the Lok Sabha. In view of the changed political circumstances and the end of our alliance with the Congress, it may not be appropriate for our Members to continue occupying the present seating arrangement alongside them."

The DMK leader urged Birla to facilitate separate seating for DMK members to ensure they can effectively carry out their parliamentary duties.

The DMK's decision to seek changes in the seating arrangement is being viewed as a significant signal regarding the future of the INDIA bloc, which was established to counter the BJP at the national level. With 22 members in the Lok Sabha and eight in the Rajya Sabha, the DMK played a pivotal role in the opposition alliance.
