Nepal Supreme Court Nominates Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma as Chief Justice
In a historic move, Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma has been nominated as the Chief Justice of the Nepal Supreme Court, superseding three senior justices, including Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla. The parliamentary committee unanimously approved Dr. Sharma's nomination, putting an end to speculations surrounding the appointment.
The decision was made by a 15-member parliamentary hearing committee, indicating a harmonious consensus among political parties. Dr. Sharma's appointment will mark the begiing of his six-year tenure, the longest for a Chief Justice in Nepal in the last thirty years.
Breaking the tradition of appointing the senior-most Supreme Court judges, Dr. Sharma, aged 59, was recommended by the constitutional committee for the prestigious role. The President is expected to appoint Dr. Sharma soon, after which he will assume his duties immediately.
