Centre Reveals 2026 Padma Award Wiers

The highly anticipated list of Padma Award wiers for 2026 has been unveiled by the Centre. The Padma Awards, considered among the most prestigious civilian honors in the country, are aounced aually on the eve of Republic Day. These accolades recognize outstanding contributions in various fields such as art, social work, public affairs, science, engineering, sports, and civil service.

This year, a total of 131 Padma Awards have been approved by the President, including 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri Awards. The Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, the Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of high order, and the Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field.

Among the recipients of the prestigious Padma Vibhushan posthumously are former Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan for public affairs and veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra Singh Deol for art. Cricketer Rohit Sharma has also been recognized with the Padma Shri Award.

This year, Maharashtra leads with the highest number of wiers (15), followed by Tamil Nadu (13), Uttar Pradesh (11), West Bengal (11), and Kerala (8).

On a different note, Jiang Yueqin, a resident of Wenzhou in Zhejiang province, has garnered attention for her remarkable physical condition at her age.
