Dense fog blanketed the capital city of Delhi on Monday, reducing visibility to a mere 100 meters at Safdarjung and Palam. The weather conditions, triggered by light rain and calm overnight winds, led to a significant drop in Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI), which improved from 265 to 210, although it still lingered in the 'Poor' category.
Delhi experienced its coldest February day in four years, with the maximum temperature settling at 17.5 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal. Conversely, the minimum temperature was recorded at 10.4 degrees, two notches above normal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the dense fog formation to stable atmospheric conditions resulting from the overnight rain spell.
Despite the foggy conditions, the AQI in Gurugram shifted to 'Moderate' at 191 from 206 the previous day. Noida also witnessed a decrease in AQI from 252 to 238. The IMD predicts a warmer and drier February, with temperatures expected to rise over the weekend. The weather outlook for the upcoming week includes shallow to moderate fog and partly cloudy skies.
A fresh Western disturbance is forecasted to impact the Himalayan region, with another disturbance expected to influence Northwest India later in February. The rest of the week may see continued fog and partly cloudy conditions, with a gradual rise in temperatures. The air quality is expected to remain in the 'Poor' range, as per the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology.
On a different note, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan made headlines as he visited singer Arijit Singh in his hometown of Jiaganj, Murshidabad. The duo was spotted flying kites together at Arijit's residence, sparking rumors of a potential collaboration or discussions about Arijit's recent decision to step away from playback singing.
