When Collector Pratap Narayan Yadav of Damoh suspected eavesdropping on his confidential conversations, he took matters into his own hands with a clever trap involving a mobile phone and a live news broadcast. What ensued was a revelation of a potentially years-long breach in the district's administration.

On what was supposed to be a typical morning at the Collectorate of Damoh, Collector Yadav found himself amidst a circle of officers, plaing a surprise inspection. However, a phone call from the very department he was about to inspect alerted him to the fact that his private discussions were not as confidential as he thought. This raised immediate suspicions of being bugged.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Yadav devised a plan to uncover the breach without causing alarm. He strategically used a live news broadcast playing on a mobile phone to reveal that conversations in his chamber were being intercepted through a tampered telephone line.

Officials believe that the covert operation had been ongoing for years, with staff members in the adjacent PA room listening in on confidential meetings, phone calls, and administrative decisions. The intercepted information was then allegedly passed on to external parties, potentially compromising the integrity of the district administration.

Following the discovery, an Assistant Grade-3 employee central to the operation was immediately suspended, while a long-serving clerk and an office attendant were transferred and removed from their positions respectively. The seized telephone sets are undergoing forensic examination to determine the extent of the breach and identify other potential culprits.

The breach is being treated as a serious violation of government confidentiality, with officials conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the reach of the leak network and any vested interests involved in avoiding administrative scrutiny.
