Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Aounces Incentives to Boost State's Birth Rate
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh has made a significant aouncement, shifting from his previous stance on population control measures to now encourage an increase in the state's birth rate. Speaking at a public meeting in Narsaapeta, Srikakulam district, CM Naidu unveiled incentives aimed at reversing the declining population trend in the state.
Incentives for Growing Families
The Chief Minister aounced that families welcoming a third child would receive Rs 30,000, while a fourth child would be rewarded with Rs 40,000. This decision marks a departure from his earlier proposal of providing a Rs 25,000 incentive for the birth of a second child.
Urging for Collaboration
CM Naidu emphasized the need for collective efforts from society to bolster the state's population growth. He highlighted the importance of maintaining the replacement-level Total Fertility Rate (TFR) of 2.1, stressing that a stable population requires an average fertility rate of 2.1 children per woman.
Addressing Declining Growth Trends
Naidu expressed concerns over the declining population growth rate in the state, attributing it to factors such as rising incomes leading some couples to opt for only one child, or consider a second child only if the first is not a boy. He warned that the dwindling population and aging demographics could have adverse effects on the economy.
Future Policy Implications
This latest move by CM Naidu aligns with his previous statements on the importance of population growth for economic prosperity. He had previously indicated plans to introduce a comprehensive policy to incentivize larger families, citing the economic advantages of having a robust population.
Looking Ahead
The government is set to provide further details on the incentive scheme within a month, with the aim of encouraging higher birth rates and addressing the demographic challenges faced by Andhra Pradesh. Stay updated with the latest developments by following us on Instagram.
