In a shocking turn of events, a 25-year-old man in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district tragically died by suicide after receiving a threatening phone call from an impersonator posing as a police officer. The incident unfolded with a recorded audio conversation and a final video message that led authorities to apprehend the culprit behind the distressing chain of events.
The young man, identified as Sanat Kumar Kashyap, received a call from a person claiming to be from the police, accusing him of possessing information about a missing woman who had allegedly eloped with another individual. The caller, later identified as Sachine Khare, warned Kashyap to cooperate or face severe consequences.
Hours after the threatening call, Kashyap was found dead by suicide. As the investigation into his death unfolded, it was discovered that Khare, not a law enforcement officer but a driver, had made the deceptive call.
Following the tragic incident, Khare was arrested for impersonation. Authorities revealed that the impersonator's younger sister had gone missing, suspected of eloping with an acquaintance of Kashyap. The accused believed that Kashyap had crucial information about his missing sister, prompting the fake police call.
Superintendent of Police for Janjgir-Champa district, Vijay Kumar Pandey, stated, "The accused threatened him [Kashyap] and ordered him to appear at the police station. Out of fear, the deceased took the extreme step." Khare admitted to the crime during questioning.
In response to the incident, an FIR was filed under Section 204 (personating a public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Additionally, a missing person's report for Khare's sister was lodged at the Kusmunda Police Station in Korba district.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the repercussions of impersonation and the importance of verifying the authenticity of communications. Stay informed with the latest updates - .
