Union Cabinet Gives Green Light to Two Major Railway Line Projects Enhancing Coectivity Between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh

The Union Cabinet has recently given its approval to two significant railway line projects aimed at enhancing train coectivity between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, signaling a boost to the region's transportation infrastructure.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has sanctioned a railway project valued at around Rs 1,264 crore for the expansion of the Ballari-Guntakal railway line. This project will involve the construction of the third and fourth railway lines on the Ballari-Guntakal section, coecting the two southern states.

The expansion project, spaing across three districts in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, will extend the Indian Railways (IR) network by approximately 46 km. It is anticipated to enhance coectivity to nearly 99 villages with a combined population of about seven lakhs. Furthermore, the capacity augmentation is set to improve rail coectivity to various prominent tourist destinations, including Ballari Fort and Sri Kumara Swamy Temple.

The development of the third and fourth railway lines on the Ballari-Guntakal section will encompass the construction of a 762-meter mega bridge over the Vedavathi River, in addition to seven major bridges and 52 minor bridges. The project is scheduled to be completed within a timeframe of three years.

The addition of the third and fourth lines on the Ballari-Guntakal section is deemed crucial by the Railways as it will augment capacity on a vital freight route used for transporting commodities such as iron ore, dolomite, limestone, iron and steel, coal, fertilizers, and food grains. The project is forecasted to increase freight carrying capacity by approximately 1622 million toes per aum (MTPA).

The multi-tracking initiative is also expected to streamline train operations, alleviate congestion, and enhance the overall efficiency of the rail network, bringing about substantial benefits to the region.

The implementation of the Ballari-Guntakal 3rd and 4th line project will not only bolster coectivity between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh but also facilitate smoother transportation of essential commodities, thereby contributing to the economic development of the region. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to bolstering the country's railway infrastructure and fostering coectivity across different states.
