CBI Arrests Fifth Suspect in Coection with Killing of Suvendu Adhikari’s Aide
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made another breakthrough in the case of the killing of Suvendu Adhikari’s executive assistant, Chandranath Rath, by arresting a fifth suspect, 40-year-old Vinay Rai, also known as Pumpum Rai, in Varanasi.
From Property Dealer to Accused: Vinay Rai’s Background The accused, Vinay Rai, originally from the Zamani area of Ghazipur, had shifted to Varanasi years ago and was involved in property dealing. The CBI team swiftly acted on the substantial evidence linking Rai to the crime and secured a two-day transit remand from a local court in Varanasi.
Progress in the Investigation After completing the necessary legal formalities, including a medical examination, Rai was taken to Kolkata for further questioning. The CBI has taken over the investigation from the Bengal Police and has registered a case under various sections, including murder and criminal conspiracy.
Previous Arrests and Ongoing Probe Earlier, three suspects - Mayank Raj Mishra, Vicky Maurya, and Raj Singh - were arrested from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Authorities suspect they were hired hitmen from out-of-state. The motives behind the killing are still under investigation.
Latest Development: Arrest of Raj Kumar Singh In a recent development, another suspect, Raj Kumar Singh, was apprehended in Muzaffarnagar, UP, while allegedly attempting to flee to Uttarakhand. The UP police collaborated in the operation.
