Woman Released After Alleged Abduction During Border Attack in Manipur
Amidst the chaos of an attack on border villages in Kamjong district, a woman was allegedly abducted by militants on Thursday. The woman, identified as Olina Ningshen from the Tangkhul community, was reportedly taken by members of the Kuki National Army (Burma) and Village Volunteers Eastern Zone (VVEZ) from Namlee village.
After days of uncertainty, Olina Ningshen was released on Sunday at Z Choro village near the border. The Ministry of Defence confirmed her safe return, stating that she was released under the watchful eyes of Assam Rifles, Intelligence, and other agencies.
Attack on Villages The villages of Choro, Namlee, and Wanglee along the Indo-Myanmar border were targeted in the attack on May 7. The incident resulted in multiple injuries and several houses being set ablaze. Olina Ningshen had been missing since the attack, causing distress among her family and the community.
Upon her release, the family and local civil society organizations (CSOs) were taken to unit headquarters at Chassad for formal procedures before being reunited and moved back to their village, Khangpat Khn.
Security Measures and Arrests Security forces acted swiftly during the crisis, deploying multiple rescue teams to secure affected houses and evacuate distressed villagers to safety. In a search operation, an armed cadre of the Kuki National Army (B) was arrested from Churachandpur.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Manipur Home Minister Govindas Kothoujam visited Kamjong district to assess the situation on Saturday. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence commended the proactive measures taken by the Assam Rifles in bringing the situation under control.
