Authorities in Bihar's Gaya district apprehended a 35-year-old man, Vikas Kumar Yadav, for allegedly using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and photo editing tools to create and share objectionable images of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's son, Nishant Kumar, and folk singer-turned-MLA Maithili Thakur on social media. The images, which were posted on Facebook, quickly gained traction, prompting complaints and sparking a police investigation.
The Fatehpur police, upon learning of the offensive content, swiftly launched a probe into the matter. Through digital and technical analysis, they were able to track down the source of the images to Yadav's residence in Shabdoun village. Subsequently, a raid was conducted, resulting in Yadav's arrest on Saturday evening. Following his apprehension, Yadav confessed to his actions and publicly acknowledged his mistake in a video posted on social media.
Station House Officer Manoj Kumar emphasized that disseminating defamatory material through digital means is a punishable offense under the Information Technology Act and other relevant laws. He stressed the importance of using technology responsibly and warned that strict action would be taken against individuals misusing digital tools for unlawful purposes. The police confiscated Yadav's mobile phone and other devices as part of their ongoing investigation to ascertain if others were involved in the incident.
