The Indian team management has confirmed that families of Indian cricketers will not be allowed to stay with the players during the upcoming T20 World Cup campaign. This decision is in line with the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) policy, which restricts family members from accompanying the players for the duration of the tournament.
According to sources at The Indian Express, the team management had approached the BCCI seeking clarity on whether the families of cricketers could join them during the tournament. The BCCI allows players to have their families, including partners and children, with them for a maximum of 14 days if an away tour lasts more than 45 days.
A BCCI source confirmed, "The Indian team management had approached the BCCI to ask whether wives and fiancées can travel with the team and whether they can also stay with them. The board has made it clear that families won't be staying with the players. They can make separate arrangements, though, if they want to."
India is set to play three matches in the league phase of the T20 World Cup at home and one game in Colombo. The team, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, will be traveling on a private charter throughout the tournament. Players will have personal chefs who will prepare food at the nearest hotel and send it over to them.
This decision is not unprecedented, as the BCCI had introduced guidelines in 2025 after India's tour to Australia, outlining restrictions on family members accompanying players on tours. In recent years, players were allowed to have their families with them for the entire duration of the tour, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The support staff noted that some players were unavailable for team meetings and plaing sessions, opting to spend time with their families instead. This led the BCCI to revert to its previous policy of not allowing families to stay with the players during tours.
