Tamil Nadu Government Formation: TVK Emerges as Single Largest Party, Seeks Majority Support

Amidst the political turmoil in Tamil Nadu following the recent Assembly elections, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the single largest party in the state with 108 elected legislators. However, the party falls 10 seats short of the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.

AIADMK national spokesperson Kovai Sathyan has criticized actor-turned-politician Vijay's TVK over its alliance with Congress. Sathyan stated that the alliance has put a hole in a ship, likening it to helping the ship sink faster.

The Congress, with five legislators, has offered conditional support to the TVK, bringing the total to 113 seats. However, Sathyan raised concerns, emphasizing that adding Congress's five seats would not be enough to save TVK from falling short of the required 118 seats for a majority.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar has decided to delay Vijay's swearing-in, citing that the majority required to form the government has not been established. Despite being the single largest party, the TVK is yet to prove its majority on the floor of the house.

The Congress, with five MLAs in the Assembly, has parted ways with the DMK-led alliance to support the TVK in forming the government. This move has caused divisions within the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.

The CPI and CPI(M) are deliberating on whether to support the TVK in the government formation. The VCK and IUML are also expected to make crucial decisions in the coming days to determine their stance in the evolving political scenario.
